Orthodontic Options for Children and Teens

Conventional Orthodontics (Braces)- For children and teens, the most common orthodontic treatment is braces. Braces consist of two primary components: brackets and wires. The brackets are bonded to the front surface of the teeth and are connected with arch wire that Dr. Kasun will gradually tighten during the course of treatment. Braces move teeth into their correct occlusion through tension applied to the brackets by the wires. In younger mouths, treatment can often be completed in one to two years.

Invisalign® Teen – Invisalign uses clear aligners instead of braces to gently move the teeth into their ideal position.  The aligners are worn all day and all night with the exception of cleaning your teeth and aligners.  Invisalign® Teen accommodates for the erupting permanent teeth guiding them into the ideal smile line and bite.

Early Intervention - Braces can sometimes be avoided with early intervention through the use of oral appliances to guide natural growth and development of oral structures. Dr. Kasun caters each treatment to meet the specific needs of the patient and can better determine how long your child’s treatment will take during your consultation.

The Myobrace® System – For children and teens aged 3 to 15.  The Myobrace® System is preventive pre-orthodontic treatment that focuses on addressing the underlying causes of crooked teeth, while promoting natural growth and development. The treatment involves using a series of removable intra-oral appliances that are worn for 1 hour each day plus overnight while sleeping.  To learn more about The Myobrace® System, please visit myobrace.com

Orthodontic Options for Adults

Conventional Orthodontics (Braces) - While many people undergo orthodontic treatment at a young age, an estimated 30 percent of orthodontic patients are adults. Adult orthodontics can take anywhere from 12 to 36 months to complete correction of teeth. In some cases, an accelerated treatment may be possible for very small adjustments.

Invisalign® - Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that is highly popular with adults.  Unlike braces which require visible metal wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently move your teeth into their ideal position, often in as few as 8-12 months. Minor corrections can be made in just a few short months.

While fast treatment requires that you wear your aligners at all times, exceptions are made for eating and homecare. The ability to remove your aligners for these tasks eliminates the dietary restrictions put in place during typical orthodontic treatment and allows you to keep your teeth healthy and bright, even during your treatment phase.

Invisalign offers a number of benefits when compared to traditional braces. These include:

  • No dietary restrictions

  • No interference with dental hygiene vistis

  • Plastic aligners will not cut gums or lips, or irritate other oral tissue

  • Virtually undetectable treatment

  • Faster treatment period

The many benefits of Invisalign make them the ideal choice for many of our patients. During your Invisalign consultation, Dr. Kasun or Dr. Higgins will examine your teeth and jaw, answer any questions you may have, and help you determine if this is the best solution for you.
