REPLACING MISSING TEETH

Dental Implants  – Dr. Kasun and Dr. Higgins both restore implant crowns. This is an excellent option for replacing missing teeth without affecting the other teeth in your mouth.  Implants prevent bone loss which occurs with missing teeth, allowing your smile to stay as natural as possible. Only dental implants address this particular issue, making them a longer-term solution than dental bridges. However, it is still important to replace missing teeth even if you are not a good candidate for dental implants.

Dental Bridges - A dental bridge is exactly what it sounds like: a bridge of dental crowns between one or more missing teeth that is used to hold an artificial tooth in the empty space. This helps prevent adjacent teeth from shifting while restoring bite tension and eliminating the unbecoming appearance of empty spaces between teeth. While there are different kinds of bridges available, Dr. Kasun and Dr. Higgins will work individually with you to find the most effective solution for replacing missing teeth.

DIGITAL DENTISTRY

Digital X-rays – We use a small sensor pad that glides around your mouth to provide our dentists and hygienists with extremely detailed information about your teeth and supporting bone. The process for digital x-rays is significantly more comfortable and accurate than the bite-and-hold method required for film x-rays. In addition, digital x-rays provide us with more information about your dental needs without exposing you to dangerous levels of radiation.

Element 2 Digital Scanner – We use the iTero digital scanning system instead of the traditional putty and tray impression whenever possible for dental crowns, smile makeovers, Invisalign and appliance therapy.  The scans are both more accurate and more comfortable than traditional impressions.

RESTORATIVE TREATMENT OPTIONS

Tooth coloured fillings – we treat cavities with tooth coloured acrylic fillings made of composite resin.  We treat both children and adults and use the latest isolation techniques to make sure your fillings are placed safely and beautifully.  Our dentists do not place amalgam (metal) fillings.

Crowns & onlays – with dental crowns and onlays, our dentists can protect and restore teeth that have been weakened through trauma or decay.  We use crowns and onlays to: protect a cracked tooth, restore a damaged or weakened tooth, restore a severely worn tooth, change the appearance of a misshapen tooth, or to restore a tooth after a root canal. Dental crowns are an important treatment for restoring teeth and avoiding deterioration. We take pride in colour matching your crown or onlay to your existing tooth colour so your smile will look completely natural.

Advantage ArrestTM Early Cavity Deactivation -  uses a silver diamine formula to bond with bacteria that is creating the cavity or hole in the tooth. The silver bonds to the bacteria and with just 2 applications, it can stop the destruction of the tooth so that it can them be repaired and sealed.

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

A safe and effective way to remove infection from a tooth, eliminating discomfort and helping prevent tooth extraction. As long as the tooth is then restored properly with a filling or crown it can still last many years.

LASER DENTISTRY

At Artisan Dental, we are committed to providing our patients with treatments that are the most comfortable and least invasive for them. To achieve this, we utilize modern dental technology such as soft-tissue lasers for a number of our procedures.

Dr. Chélise Kasun, Dr. Furey Higgins, and other members of our team have received extensive training in the use of lasers in dentistry. To learn what laser dentistry can do for your smile, please call (250) 479-8100 today to schedule an initial consultation.

Our Laser Dentistry Procedures

Cosmetic dentistry – We frequently use our soft tissue laser to recontour the gums along the front teeth, creating a beautiful and even smile. We will also use it for recontouring a gummy smile. Using a laser for this procedure helps reduce certain risks and optimize results.

Periodontal treatment – Lasers can safely and comfortably remove infection and reduce bacteria from pockets along the gum line.

Frenectomy – Dr. Kasun or Dr. Higgins may use a soft-tissue laser to loosen restrictive tissue in the mouth and tongue.

In any of its applications, laser dentistry provides a painless, less traumatic treatment.

Our Evolving Technology

As technology progresses, Dr. Kasun and Dr. Higgins continually evaluate new techniques that can benefit our patients. The use of lasers in dentistry is still a developing field, and one we watch closely to ensure we continue to offer our patients the most progressive options available.

Lasers are safe and effective, and may help reduce risks from infection and eliminate bleeding associated with many procedures. We will be happy to discuss this with you in more detail during your initial consultation.

Gingivitis, commonly known as gum disease, has symptoms such as swelling and bleeding in the gums. Research studies have found that most adults have, or will at some point have, at least a mild form of this disease. If gingivitis is left untreated it can advance to more serious gum disease, known as periodontitis, and can be link to systemic diseases. At Artisan Dental, we are concerned with your overall health and wellbeing.

What to watch for:

  • Swelling, tenderness, or redness in the gums

  • Bleeding gums

  • Gums pulling away from the teeth

  • Loose teeth

  • Pockets of puss around the teeth

  • Chronic bad breath

Contact us today and our dental hygienists can screen your gum health, your susceptibility to disease and for the presence of active periodontal infection.

Treatment Options

At Artisan Dental, we offer a variety of treatment options for periodontal disease. In the early stages, gingivitis can often be treated with regular dental hygiene visits to our office. In most cases, a visit to our office for a professional cleaning coupled with a more rigorous at-home routine will reverse this gum disease.

When untreated and undiagnosed gum disease progresses into a more serious infection, periodontal disease, and it can cause subsequent health issues. When faced with a decreased immune system response, more aggressive forms of oral bacteria, or underlying health conditions, a more advanced form of treatment may be necessary. In addition to scaling and root planning, our dental hygienists may utilize soft-tissue laser therapy or perioprotect trays for the treatment of periodontal disease. Both treatment options minimize the need for surgery and antibiotics in a comfortable way.

Soft-tissue laser therapy offers many advantages over older, more invasive treatments, including:

  • Significant reduction of bacteria below the gum line

  • Promotes healing

  • No need for sutures

  • Reduced risk of bleeding

  • Reduced risk of secondary infection

Perioprotect trays are a comfortable tray delivery method of medication where your toothbrush, floss and rinses cannot reach. Regular at-home dental care products can only reach 3 mm below the gum line but in some cases we need to clean deeper. These trays are used at home, in-between office visits on an interval that is recommended by the hygienist. Visit the perioprotect website for further information http://www.perioprotect.com/

At Artisan Dental, we strive to provide the safest, least invasive, and most comfortable options for our patients. We will work closely with you to ensure your periodontal treatment eliminates the problem and restores comfort and health to your smile.
