NEW PATIENT EXPERIENCE: ADULTS

The first step to achieving your optimum oral health goals is a comprehensive initial consultation. This first meeting gives you an opportunity to meet Dr. Chélise Kasun or Dr. Furey Higgins and our team, share your oral health goals, cosmetic dentistry goals, express concerns or ask questions you may have, and learn more about Artisan Dental in general.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We begin your appointment by getting to know you and your oral health goals.  Whether you want to maintain your teeth exactly the way they are, you have a small or a big cosmetic dentistry change you want to do, you have some questions about your teeth or gums, you are apprehensive about seeing the dentist, or you have any other concern, we will take the time to discuss it with you.

Next, Dr. Kasun or Dr. Higgins will review your health history with you, complete an oral cancer screening; checking for any lumps or bumps; provide a full assessment of your teeth, gums, and any existing dentistry. In addition Dr. Kasun or Dr. Higgins will be checking that your joints, muscles and teeth are all working in harmony. All of your options will be discussed and a personalized treatment will be designed to meet your needs.

Next, you will see one of our gentle and thorough hygienists, Chantale Kelsey or Daylene, to continue the assessment of your gum health and for the ‘cleaning’ portion of the visit.

After the clinical portion is complete, we will sit down with you to address any questions you may have and to discuss your personalized treatment plan.

WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR INITIAL CONSULTATION

You can help Dr. Kasun and Dr. Higgins make the best decisions for your dental care by bringing as much information about your oral and medical history as possible. There are some treatments that may not be right for people with certain pre-existing conditions. Providing Dr. Kasun and Dr. Higgins with this information better enables them to tailor your treatments to help you meet your goals while also protecting your overall health.

In addition to medical records, it is helpful if you come to your first meeting with a list of questions you have. Your initial consultation gives you the chance to discover more about our services, our technology, and our patient care. We will be happy to fully and honestly address any questions you have, to help you make an informed decision about your dental care.

During your initial consultation, you can discuss your oral health and your cosmetic dentistry goals with Dr. Kasun or Dr. Higgins. We are dedicated to creating the most effective, individualized treatment plan for you, so you can enjoy your best oral health and smile appearance.

NEW PATIENT EXPERIENCE: CHILDREN

We feel it is so important to tailor each child’s new patient experience specifically for them.  We take many factors into consideration when doing this, including, age, dental concerns, individual personalities and comfort level.

WHEN TO BRING A CHILD FOR THEIR FIRST VISIT?

As suggested by the British Columbia Dental Association, we recommend bringing your child in for their first visit by their first birthday.  We will have a quick look in the mouth and we can answer any questions you may have so that good habits can be established early.

If your child is older than one year old, bring them in for a ‘ride in the chair’ and a fun appointment!

In addition to checking their teeth, we will discuss nutrition, oral habits and assess orofacial development.

If your child is anxious about their appointment, here are some suggestions to try before the dental visit: read some ‘visiting the dentist’ children’s books prior to coming in, bring a ‘stuffie’ so we can check its ‘teeth’ as well.

We want every child to feel special during their appointment and excited to come to back for their next dental appointment.

DENTAL ANXIETY: OUR APPROACH TO ENSURE YOUR COMFORT

Dr. Chélise Kasun, Dr. Higgins and our Artisan Dental team have refined a patient experience that is notably personal and caring centered on providing a wide range of dental services. We want our patients to know all of us and feel comfortable asking any questions or communicate any concerns. Our goal is for you to enjoy an exceptional experience in our dental office even if you may experience fear or anxiety about dental treatment.

If you’re anxious about your dental treatment, let us help you find the right treatment approach that works for you because avoiding the dental office can lead to worse dental health issues demanding more urgent dental work.

WORKING THROUGH YOUR DENTAL ANXIETY: ORAL SEDATION

If you are feeling apprehensive about your dental treatment, we recommend speaking to Dr. Kasun or Dr. Higgins and staff to see if you are a good candidate for oral sedation. At Artisan Dental, we use sedation conservatively and will explore all possible options to ensure your comfort. Oral sedation (also known as conscious sedation) is a safe, effective way of ensuring comfort and managing anxiety. Oral sedation involves you taking a pill prior to your procedure and you can expect to feel deeply relaxed and eased of your tension.

The health and beauty of your smile is an important part of your overall wellness, and we are committed to providing valuable, effective dentistry in a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. By visiting the dentist regularly, you can avoid these oral health problems.
