Dental bonding is a minimally invasive solution for correcting a number of minor cosmetic dental problems. Dr. Chélise Kasun can use dental bonding to address issues with teeth that are:
- Unevenly spaced
- Irregularly sized or shaped
- Chipped or cracked
Dental bonding can also be used to cover an exposed tooth root caused by receding gums. It is also a common component of cosmetic smile makeovers.
The Dental Bonding Process
Unlike porcelain veneers which can be used to address similar problems, dental bonding requires only one office visit. However, bonding is not as long-lasting as veneers, nor can it correct more pronounced cosmetic imperfections. The best solution for you will be determined during your initial consultation at our Victoria, British Columbia office.
To prepare your teeth for dental bonding, Dr. Kasun will first need to gently roughen their surface and apply a conditioning liquid. These steps help ensure your bonding adheres to your teeth. Once your teeth have been prepared, Dr. Kasun will apply the bonding resin, shaping it to fit seamlessly into your smile. The resin is then light cured.
Dr. Kasun may need to apply more than one layer of dental bonding. After the final layer has been applied, she will sculpt and polish it to ensure a completely natural look. The resin used in dental bonding is color matched to adjacent teeth, further assisting in a natural-looking, cosmetically improved smile.
Dental bonding is often more cost effective than more involved procedures, but it may not be right for every problem. During your initial consultation with Dr. Kasun, your smile will be examined, all of your options discussed, and the solution best for your smile determined.
